’爱’ - love. To be human is to love and be loved. Written in traditional Chinese, the word has the chinese character, “心”, which means heart in the middle of the character.
Lim Tze Peng believes that art is a reflection of an artist’s temperament and moral character. Execution of a calligraphy work requires confidence, speed and mastery of technique, which takes patience and lots of practice. According to Lim, everything in art begins with a line. Technique aside, what is more important is the life that is released to each stroke of the brush. The lines forming the characters are free-flowing, possesses inner strength and are not fleeting. Lim prioritises the visual value and appeal of his calligraphy works and he thinks that even non-chinese readers can appreciate the aesthetics of the characters.
