It is awe-inspiring that Mr Lim Tze Peng continues to create and complete major artworks such as this painting at a 100 years of age. Focusing on the facade of shophouses at Chinatown in the past, Mr Lim Tze Peng applied darker tones of ink generously on the walls of the aged old building. With these textures, the feeling that these buildings being long lasting, ever present and deep rooted to the location was forged. It was nice and significant touch by Mr Lim Tze Peng to apply brighter colours on the signboards, hanging clothes and goods that were being sold to balance the heavier tones observed in most parts of the composition. Overall this is a pronounced painting with substantial presence by the famous Singaporean artist.
