Mid Autumn Festival at Chinatown
Ink on rice paper
SOLD
This lovely painting of a scene at Chinatown during Mid Autumn Festival depicts a traditional moon cake shop and stall selling pomelos. In the past, it was common to find shops selling mooncakes installing elaborate designs at their shops to add to the festive mood and attract customers as observed on the top left portion of this painting. The artist depicted many passersby and shoppers patronising the establishments forging a lively and vibrant ambience in the creation.
Lim Tze Peng was conferred the prestigious Culture Medallion Award in 2003 and the Meritorious Service Medal at the National Day Awards in 2016. This singaporean master may be a hundred years old (he was born in 1921) but continues to create works of art when he is healthy and well.
