Goh Beng Kwan
Lotus Series: Landscape
Mixed Media
76x52cm
2009

The composition of this painting by Goh reminds viewers of the structure of a traditional Chinese landscape piece where the lower segments are dense while more negative space is left at top parts of the creation. This resemblance with traditional Chinese landscape painting reflects Goh Beng Kwan’s background in art specifically the times where he learnt traditional ink painting from famous artist Chen Wen Hsi. It is also in this creation that we see the common techniques of dripping and application of dots both of which are common traits of an abstract work of art. Lastly, the various shades of blue that form large parts of the composition is attractive and eye catching.
