At 95 in 2016, Lim Tze Peng became the oldest Singaporean to be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, he also won the Cultural Medallion award in 2013. These awards acknowledges his immense contributions to Singapore’s art scene. Breaking free from Chinese calligraphy traditions, Lim Tze Peng seeks innovations and novelty in his works. As a result, the artist’s works are organic, expressive and experimental.
His abstract calligraphy consists of bold spontaneous strokes that evokes vigour and energy. With his novel and intuitive use of colours, he was able to further enhance traditional ink painting.
