Ink on rice paper
68x44cm

In 1975, Chua Ek Kay started taking Chinese ink classes from Fan Chang Tien who was a master in the xinyi style of painting. It was under Fan’s tutelage that Chua Ek Kay learnt about the symbolism of famous subject matters in traditional ink painting. Chua Ek Kay resonated with the idea of expressing the spirit of the subject matter through brushstrokes, ink lines and ink wash.
