After painting with acrylic for many years, Ang Ah Tee decided to try painting with Chinese ink because he believes it is important to experiment with different mediums and he felt inspired by Chinese ink masters and their works. He places emphasis on brush strokes and adds some colours to blend into some of his paintings to bring life to these otherwise monotonous artworks.

He found that the most challenging aspect in painting with Chinese ink is the mastery of light strokes as compared to the heavy brushstrokes he was used to when painting with acrylic. Additionally, he had to be careful with the brushstrokes on the paper which is more fragile than canvas. Unlike in acrylic paintings where the artist could overlap the paints, it is not possible to make amendments with Chinese ink paintings.
