This is a beautiful painting by Nai Swee Leng. With definite strokes of the Chinese ink brush he depicts fishes in the pond on a lovely afternoon. The vibrant purple flowers and leaves are painted with finesse. This creates harmony and balance within the painting.

Nai Swee Leng is one of the outstanding exponents of the emerging “new” brush painting school in Singapore whose main ambition has been to forge out a new identity for traditional Chinese painting. The artists of the school, all relatively young, strive to combine the tested strength found in the traditional form of painting with fresh elements that they have discovered. Within a discipline which has weathered hundreds of years, these artists seek individuality from their own forms of experimentation.
