Back alleys are commonly depicted in paintings by Zhu Hong. He is captivated by lesser explored subjects such as spiral staircases, metal gates and gas cylinders at the back of food establishments. In 2013, Zhu Hong held an exhibition titled Portraits of Singapore at the Beijing Art Museum, the same exhibition was then held once more at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre in the same year.
