Strategically situated at the intersection of Ann Siang Hill and Club Street, this brightly painted shophouse stands out from the rest, making it a popular subject to paint amongst local artists. Painted on site, Marvin Chew accurately captures details such as the distinctive windows, plants in pleasant proportion and composition. It is interesting to note that the man in a t-shirt with red stripes is a commonly seen subject in paintings by Marvin, it has since become one of the artist’s trademark.
In 2015 Marvin participated in “50 Cultural Landscapes of Singapore” Watercolour Exhibition by jointly hosted by Lianhe Zaobao and Singapore Watercolour Society in conjunction with Singapore’s SG50 jubilee celebration.
