This is an intriguing composition by Lim Tze Peng as he applies shades of brown tones to create a classical and long lasting ambience in the painting. The attention of the viewer is naturally drawn to the clay vessels and pots that are laid out at the storefront with the application of gold paint against a background of brown tones. It is also interesting that there is a visual connection throughout the composition as the gold and black lines are utilised to suggest the store’s tentage and window panes on the second level. In comparison with other storefront paintings by Lim Tze Peng, the interiors in outlines of the windows and tentage in these painting were left empty. This allows the viewer to appreciate the strength and flow of the lines drawn on the upper segments of this painting.
