Working and living in Singapore, Liu Xuan Qi painted familiar toys that were commonly seen and played by children in Singapore during the 1990s and early 2000s. In this painting, we see a figurine of the popular Japanese superhero ‘Ultraman’ surrounded by several pieces of little green army men. The textures around these figurines invokes a feeling of action and movement in the viewers, bringing life to the painting. The painting also reminds viewers of the fun times they had and the joyous laughters shared as they articulate their imaginative stories of these stories.
