Introduction
Singapore is a beautiful city state known for it’s modern skyscrapers, cultural heritage buildings and peaceful nature sites. This exhibition brings together 24 paintings by 6 artists who have lived and worked in Singapore for the past 20 years.
We welcome viewers to notice the liberal approach in Zhu Hong’s paintings, experience a sense of nostalgia in Tung Yue Nang’s monochrome creations, be intrigued by the numerous details in Marvin Chew’s watercolour works, feel the radiance of Wang Mo Ping’s impressionist paintings, connect with the everyday in Le Matt’s social realistic art and be mesmerised by the realism of Wang Fei’s works.
These diverse expressions of Singapore remind us that being receptive to a wide range of diverse ideas, embracing different perspectives and values contributes to the forging of a colourful and energetic city.
In venue partnership with Artplus Gallery, this exhibition would be held during the Month of May 2025.
Opening hours are 12-7pm on Mondays and 1130am-7pm on Tuesdays to Sundays.
Wang Mo Ping
68 year old artist Mr Wang Mo Ping graduated from the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s and taught at the Academy in the 1990s. He became a citizen of Singapore and taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in the early 2000s.
He is well versed in painting a wide variety of subject matters using the oil medium on canvas. One of which include his impressionistic sceneries of different places in Singapore. For instance, he has created paintings of a family enjoying their weekend and observing fishes in a pond at a park in the West of Singapore. He has also painted the iconic Singapore River, depicting it in both the night and day times.
Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery organised a show for Mr Wang in 2015. His painting titled ‘Jurong Fishery Port’ earned him first place at the annual Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Awards by Singapore Art Society in 2019.

艺术家王模平,68岁,于20世纪80年代毕业于湖北美术学院,后于90年代在该学院任教。21世纪初,他获得新加坡公民身份,并在南洋艺术学院任教。
他擅长用油画在画布上创作各种主题。其中包括以新加坡风景为主的印象派画作。例如他曾创作一幅一家人在新加坡西部公园里的河边欣赏鱼儿的场景。他也曾以新加坡河为绘画主题刻画在白天和夜晚时的河边景色。
2015年,好望角画廊也为王老师主办个人展览。2019年,他的‘裕廊渔港’画作赢得由新加坡艺术协会主办的陈之初美术奖的第一名。

TUNG YUE NANG
65 year old artist Tung Yue Nang learnt ink painting and calligraphy writing from well known artist Shi Xiang Tuo when he was a teenager.
Mr Tung is now known for his ink paintings of iconic places such as Singapore River, Joo Chiat, Pulau Ubin and Chinatown. He managed to create a nice historical ambience in his paintings by focusing on the largely monochrome characteristic in his works. These paintings are also very detailed. Viewers are able to appreciate the passersby’s expressions, the clothing that they are wearing, the goods displayed at the shopfronts as well as the details on the buildings.
Tung Yue Nang won prizes at the Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Awards's Ink painting Category on multiple occasions. His paintings have also been showcased at numerous exhibitions and events in Singapore. Some of them include shows at ART SG in 2024 and exhibitions organised by Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery in 2014, 2019 and 2022.

65岁艺术家鄧汝能青年时在著名艺术家施香沱的教导下学习水墨画和书法。
鄧先生现以创作新加坡河、如切、乌敏岛、牛车水等标志性地方的水墨画而闻名。他在这些作品中成功营造出美好的热闹气氛与独特的怀旧氛围。他的画作细腻入微,栩栩如生,十分特别。
鄧汝能已多次获得陈之初博士美术奖的水墨奖项类别。他的画作也在各个展览和活动场地展出,其中包括2024年的国际艺术博览会ART SG以及好望角画廊2014,2019和2022年举办的展览。

Zhu Hong
56 year old artist Zhu Hong graduated from the Department of Architecture at Dalian University of Technology. It was there that he developed a strong foundation in Architectural drawing, design and painting. He relocated to Singapore in the 1990s and was granted citizenship in the early 2000s.
Since then Zhu Hong had two important shows at the Beijing Art Museum and Shanghai Urban Planning Centre in 2013. Zhu Hong also showcased his paintings at several successful exhibitions in Singapore such as “Emerging with Colours” in 2019 and “Expressions of Passions” in 2024.
Zhu Hong is best known for using a mixture of spray paint, oils and acrylics to forge a fantastical expression of places such as the Singapore River, Geylang, Little India or Chinatown.

56岁的艺术家朱宏毕业于大连理工大学的建筑系,在建筑制图、设计和绘画等方面打下了坚实的基础。朱宏于20世纪90年代移居新加坡,后于21世纪初获得公民身份。
自2013年来,朱宏的画作已在北京美术馆和上海城市规划中心的两次重要展览展出。朱宏也在新加坡举办多次次展览,如好望角画廊在2019年的“Emerging with Colours”展览和2024年的“Expressions of Passions”展览。
朱宏以其混合媒介艺术创作闻名。他通过喷漆、油画和丙烯颜料的混合,以奇幻的表达方式刻画出自己心中的新加坡河、芽笼、小印度、牛车水等地方。

Wang Fei
53 year old artist Wang Fei was a student at the Beijing Art & Design School before moving to Singapore in the 1990s. He then enrolled into the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
Since becoming a full time artist, Wang Fei has held several exhibitions. This includes a show of 30 paintings titled “An Artist’s Pursuit” in 2018 organised by Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery. Wang Fei is best known for his realistic and impressionistic paintings of sceneries in different places around the world and in Singapore.
In 2014, Wang Fei won the first prize in the Western Painting Category at the Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Awards organised by the Singapore Art Society. Wang Fei was also awarded the Highly Commended Award at the 2020 UOB Painting of the Year Competition for his painting “S. R. Nathan in 1974”

Marvin Chew
50 year old artist Marvin Chew is well known for creating impressionistic watercolour paintings of local street scenes and playgrounds. He has also painted beautiful sceneries of Malaysia, Vietnam, England and Korea when he travels.
Marvin has held 5 solo exhibitions in singapore and actively participates in group shows in the region. For instance, he participated in a group show in Vietnam in 2016. In 2021, Marvin signed on as Brand Ambassador for Royal Talens a Dutch company specialising in producing fine art materials. In 2021, Marvin received the Signature Membership from the National Watercolour Society after being accepted thrice in its International Open Exhibitions in 2010, 2015 and 2021 respectively. In 2023 Artplus Gallery held a show for Marvin in Singapore .

艺术家周佑任,50岁,以创作本地街景,景色和游乐场的印象水彩画闻名。他出国到马来西亚、越南、英国、韩国游玩时也会把那里的城市景观,美丽风景画出来。
周佑任已经在新加坡举办了5次个人展,也积极地参与亚洲各地的联展。2016年,他参与了越南的联展。2021年,周先生和专门生产美术材料Royal Talens的荷兰公司签约担任品牌大使。2023年,艺家画廊也为周佑任举办一次个人展。

Le Matt (Matthew Lee)
40 year old Singaporean artist Matthew Lee (Le Matt) left his engineering degree course to pursue his passion in Western painting. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2011.
Since graduating, Matt has exhibited at venues including Esplanade, The Arts House, National Design Centre, Aliwal Arts Centre, Objectifs Gallery and the Affordable Art Fair.
Matthew is intrigued by the everyday happenings around him, many of which go unnoticed by most people. They include rickshaw uncles taking a break, old grannies pushing trolley of cardboard or patrons having their morning coffee shop at the food court. He looks to bring out the beauty of the day to day activities in his paintings.
