Apart from depictions of nostalgic scenes of Singapore, Lim Tze Peng is famous for his expressions of aged old trees or more commonly known as the Inroad Series. These paintings revolve around the free strokes of bold ink lines which are mastered from Lim Tze Peng’s practice of calligraphy writing. Paintings from the Inroad Series also indicate his interest in nature, his keen observation of a tree’s structure while having his daily walks at a park situated near his residence.
Viewers would clearly observe a clear structure right in the centre of the composition as well as the striking red colour that dominates its surroundings. Both aspects reflect the artist’s intention of presenting a striking painting which is contrasting to the darker expressions from the Inroad Series. Lastly the sporadic marks of Cerulean blue creates further room for discussion over this intriguing creation.
