This painting by Mr Lim Tze Peng depicts the life of villagers in the good old days. Neighbours living in the same community would gather together and chat over daily occurences. For the early settlers in Singapore, they would reside in wooden houses and thatched roofs, the accessibility to resources were dependent on their financial ability. Life was simpler back in the day, communities in Kampungs have strong bonds with one another which developed over their common experience of growing agriculture and livestock. In this artwork, Mr Lim expresses the kampung spirit and gives viewers an impression of the past.
