Silence - Recent Paintings by Tung Yue Nang

The concentration of On the Spot Painting
One of the practices which Tung embraced with enthusiasm was the practice of painting on the spot right before a stunning scene. Drawing or painting on the spot offered the artist several attractions. The enterprising artist would see the act as an exciting visual adventure which working in the studio involved in elaborate painting processes the equipment did not make it possible. But most crucial of all, working on the spot meant the artist’s direct response to nature’s invigorating atmosphere, light and her visual spectrum, stirring his emotions. In this respect, one of Tung’s exceptional capabilities is his endurance. He could paint on the spot for as long as 12 hours at a stretch without diminishing his concentration. In this way, no crucial detail escaped him.

The visual Powers of Silence
Since 2012, Tung began in earnest to search for fresh untried inspirations for his artistic development in order to expand further the boundary of his ever evolving art. Now, he attaches great importance to his reflected abstract and spiritual artistic forces, sharing his conclusions, he reveals his insights, beginning with his enlightenment on the element of silence:
”…..Silence gives us clarity of mind. It makes us aware of our environment, see things afresh, see things we have overlooked and even able to focus amidst a noisy crowd. We reach a deeper state of our concentration. By then, our mind can travel towards the future and back to the past.”

Further, Tung elaborated on the process of painting:
”……We see things at 3 different levels: the actual scene, when the perception is enhanced by the emotion and , eventually, our interpretation on paper or canvas.”
