This painting by Liu Xuan Qi marks his new endeavour of merging elements of local cultures into his “Wandering cloud” series which are typically marked only by the cloud and the lion. In this painting, viewers would notice intricate patterns at the bottom of the painting. They are inspired by the traditional peranakan tiles which can be found on the floors or walls of numerous traditional Peranakan establishments. Liu Xuan Qi decided to create paintings with his idea in mind to express his comfort and excitement after residing in Singapore for the past 10 years. He feels that Singapore has become his home away from home and wants to present that change in his artworks.
