This painting done in 1999 by Koeh Sia Yong depicts the vibrancy and liveliness of sunflowers. With bold strokes of oil paint making up the petals of each flower, one can observe the mixture different hues and tones in every corner of the canvas. Sunflowers also symbolises unwavering faith and unconditional love.
Koeh Sia Yong graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1958. Many of his iconic paintings can be found at the National Gallery Singapore including “Here they come” which depicts street hawkers running away law enforces and “Persecution” which showed terrible scenes of the Sook Ching massacre during the Japanese invasion.
