ABOUT THE SHOW

Artplus Gallery collaborates with Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery to present a show highlighting oil paintings by four local artists born between the 1930s and 1940s.

Beautiful paintings of the bustling Singapore River by Lee Boon Wang, depictions of hawkers plying their trade at Chinatown by Choo Keng Kwang, a rare illustration of the lotus pond by Tan Choh Tee and portraits of Bali dancers by Koeh Sia Yong would be on display.

LEE BOON WANG

  • Former graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1953

  • President of NAFA alumni from 1982 - 97

  • 12 of his paintings were collected by the Sultan of Brunei and family in 1989

  • Awarded “The Singapore Distinctive Art Award” in 1982

  • Lee’s painting titled “Potong Pasir Dairy Farmer” painted in 1958 is collected by the National Gallery Singapore

CHOO KENG KWANG

  • Graduate from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

  • Conferred the long service award for his contribution in education

  • Awarded Public Service Award in 1976

  • Painted a special calendar series of six paintings each depicting varnishing trades of Singapore

    (NAFA)'s head of Art Education Department in 1984

  • Taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art in 1984

  • Attended a masterclass at the Central Academy of Fine Art in 1987

  • Won Ministry of Culture Special Award at the National Day Art Exhibition in 1976

  • Created famous paintings which include “Persecution” (1963), “Here They Come (1965), “Studying at Equator (1966) & “Pulling in the boats Kelantan Malaysia (1981)”
