“I strongly believe in painting freely and creating the things I like. Therefore viewers would observe that I have added Chinese characters such as 吉祥 and 春暖花开 to my recent paintings. It makes me feel like Spring time is coming and there is joy in the lands. Through these paintings, I would like viewers to reminisce the vibrant and festive ambience at Chinatown during the Lunar New Year Celebrations.”

“Geylang is one of my favourite places in Singapore, I spend a considerable amount of time there and immerse myself in the environment. I would chat with strangers and observe a flurry of activities that go on at Geylang. They include people indulging in Chinese gambling games in the back alleys, paddlers selling VCDs, DVDs, cough syrup or contraband cigarettes.

On the other hand, there would also be temples, mosque, churches and pockets of heritage. The restaurants would be filled with diners till late at night and the roads would be filled with vehicles. The place is unlike any other location in Singapore. It inspires me to create exciting paintings.

“新加坡最美的地方应该是芽笼的后巷，后巷有一种特殊的美。

而我们新加坡的人太过于干净，追求精致，而往往忘记掉了也没有时间去欣赏芽笼的后巷。”

“I would usually bring a sketch book with me when I go on trips. I was spending some time at the airport when travelling overseas for a holiday and felt inspired to do some casual sketches of planes. After which I went back to the studio and created a series of paintings based on my sketches and my impressions of the place. I rarely care about how accurate the painting is. If a viewer would like a realistic depiction of the place taking a photograph will suffice. I encourage my audience to let their imagination run free and feel a sense of happiness while enjoying my creations.
